Supported Employment - Defined

Our Supported Employment Program provides opportunities for people with disabilities to work outside of the center-based programs and into the community, working for private corporations.

As employees of private corporations, our adult service recipients, or clients, are earning competitive wages, paying taxes, and are becoming contributing members of the community. Their success is based upon the ongoing support services provided by the staff, and the cooperation of the employer.

This isn't kindness...

It's GOOD BUSINESS

Advocacy for Respect and Choice's Supported Employment Program secures paid employment and provides job training and support for adults with developmental disabilities. The program helps individuals with disabilities enhance their economic self-sufficiency, self-esteem and integration into the community.

Supported Employment saves time. It reduces turnover and the need for employers to constantly hire and train new employees. We provide people willing to work and maintain steady employment, people who are reliable and punctual. Supported employment provides ongoing training and follow-up to ensure the employee is meeting employers' standards. Supported Employment saves money. It reduces the expense of company recruitment and training. We provide placement and training of people who will do the work well and who care about their jobs, people who are competent and thorough.

There is an employment opportunity in each and every company-Let us help you make this opportunity GOOD BUSINESS.

Three Cheers for Mattel!

We are fortunate indeed during these tough economic times to have extremely good working relationships with three outstanding companies that have provided exceptional paid work and employment opportunities for more than two hundred fifty adults with intellectual disabilities.

Since 2004 Mattel, Inc, with their corporate headquarters located in El Segundo, has hired 23 of our clients to provide mail delivery services, recycling, shipping and receiving during the day.  During the evening hours 24 of our clients along with 6 job coaches and 2 quality control staff members provide janitorial services for the entire corporate campus.  All these clients are working full time.  Of course, none of this would have been possible if not for the extraordinary efforts and commitment of one individual at Mattel, namely Bob Savino.

Mr. Savino's vision of hiring persons with intellectual disabilities has always been given the green light by Frank Maranto, who has endeared himself with just about everyone of our clients working at Mattel.  Additionally, we would also like to salute the entire workforce at Mattel for their support of these projects, neither of which would be in place if not for the leadership of Mattel's CEO Bob Eckert.
