Special Needs Program - Defined

Our Special Needs Program is focused on providing paid work services for adults with developmental disabilities whose physical deficits are severe enough to require an enhanced staff to client ratio of 1:6 during paid work services and attendant care for assistance in self help and personal care needs throughout the program day. These adults are diverse in age and eligibility for regional centers qualifying criteria. By further developing time studies through detailed task analyses, adaptive equipment will be used to augment the client's skills. These in-depth task analyses will empower the client to participate in a reasonable variety of paid work that is representative of job opportunities in the community.

Each program participant's abilities are maximized through the use of individualized, reasonable and appropriate job accommodations known as adaptive devices or jigs. This ensures the participant's access to the various job opportunities available from manufacturers who contract with us in the Work Activity Center.

While attention is focused on each participant's productivity, we also make certain that the job accommodations are designed from an environmentally comfortable perspective. This results in a more motivated worker who will be more likely to succeed in his/her progress toward vocational objectives in the sheltered or community-integrated setting.

Inquiries regarding special needs services should be directed to Yasmine Malayeri, Special Needs Program Manager, at the following e-mail address:
